The Monster in your Head

Stress stinks… (Arid works?) No probably not, arid might just be a distraction which disguises stress. Stress is arguably the most common feeling that so many people deal with on a daily basis. Personally, I believe it is one of my top five emotions. So often I feel that Stress overwhelms all of my other emotions to the point where they are too scared to come out of hiding. Perhaps my fellow sentiments are fearful that if they show signs they are present and Mr. Stress disappears they will too? Now that doesn’t seem right, or does it? If one emotion vanishes, do they all?

I have come to the conclusion that all of my stress is circulated through my annoyances. Stupid people annoy me, traffic annoys me, an obvious question annoys, and really the list goes on. But because of these, my stress level increases and I feel like I am going to spontaneously combust! Deadlines that pop up at the last minute are the MOST annoying of all. These last minute tasks amplify my stress to such a staggering height that I seriously believe I am going to faint. It’s never actually happened, but I do not doubt that one day it just might.

Some may say that I sound like I should “probably go talk to someone”, which is just a gentle way of saying “Youz a CRAZY beeyotch”, but I disagree. I definitely would be the first to admit when I have dove into the deep end. Honestly, though I think everyone experiences these feelings, the only difference is how often these feelings occur.

There are a ginormous (yes! ginormous; gigantic + enormous = ginormous) amount of stressors we are exposed to everyday. Some are natural while others are man made, an example of these would be weather (organic) and money (synthetic). Money is undeniably the most stressful component to life, and debatably the most important. Everyone needs it, everyone strives to obtain more of it, and when it’s all said and done you never have enough of it. Money has caused marriages to end, incarceration and even death. I bet (and I use that term loosely), that people think about money more often than sex, if not then about same (my thoughts). The stress that money brings upon humans is inconceivable; why we created such an evil entity is completely beyond me.

Then there are intangible elements that some claim are more important than money like; Love. Really? Who are we kidding here? Yes, isn’t love the sweetest thing? Absolutely, NOT! Love is another feeling that causes stress! Love can make you do “crazy” things that ultimately turn into stressors of life. When you are in love with someone, you care about the other person’s happiness and do acts (of various kind) to keep up the good vibe. You occasionally question your actions, reconsider them by taking into account how the other would feel and then alter them to put their wants and needs before yours. I believe that it is all the stress and worrying about peoples loved ones that causes you to become that “psycho wife/husband or girlfriend/ boyfriend”. Love, this indescribable affection, with all of its deterrable factors its so amazing that people still pursue it. Trust me contrary to the Beatles belief that “All you need is Love”, you definitely DO need more to function in today’s society.

The question now is what can we do to eliminate stress from our lives? Well, I guess there are breathing techniques you could practice? Yoga has become a big fad and is supposed to help alleviate stress. Exercise in general is an endorphin enhancer which can lessen stress. All of these options sound nice, but I think most of us take the easier route and recollect at the bar. Although, not matter what, all of these options have answered my question. When stress is relieved all other emotions do NOT disappear, they simply rematerialize and dance around like sugar plum fairies in elation because the big bad stress monster went to sleep. So your head is free to breathe… until the next morning when you walk into work and are welcomed by a pile of fresh “shit” that has been left for you on your desk.

Enter: The awakened sleeping stress monster…
